5 Things I am certain about.

These are five things about which I am certain about. I hope and wish that no one will bet against it.

1. Given the nature of what 'East' is, I can say beyond reasonable doubt that India is a country East of Africa.

2. I come to school everyday with the same man: my father.

3. If I run continously for more than 10 minutes, I will be tired(drained of energy).

4. I am certain that when i press a particular letter key on my keyboard, the corresponding letter shows on the monitor of the computer.

5. If i throw a ball up (on Earth) it will come down. I am certain about this. Trust me.

Re East Africa: this seems to be a combination of WORDS - you got the geographical information from books - and REASON 'given the meaning of east...'. Is information from a MAP the same thing as getting it from the WORDS of a book?

The 'hoping and wishing that no-one will bet against it' looks like EMOTION 'which gives self knowledge and knowledge of other people...'. This helps me to understand my 'Pragmatic heory of Truth' which is based on an insight about how people actually behave.

Considering that the world is a sphere, and not flat, can it not be possible for India to be on the West of Africa albeit that route would be greater? considering the spherical shape either which way around africa from either coast should eventually allow me to reach India right?

Using Shloka's argument India is also north and south of Africa. This is another of those arguments which only exist in the realm of words, as there is no argument about the geographical relationship between India and Africa (except insofar as plate tectonics may gradually change it)

I bet you 100 rupees you don't come to school with your father on 4th November.

brilliantly put sir. obviously i shall not come to school on a sunday. however, the bet is unaccepted. maybe, just to prove a point, and earn that 100 rupees i shall come!
i do concede the geographical point since it is something we can not be certain of.
